How do I reduce noise with a Mackie 808M FR series?
I have a Mackie 808M FR Series Mixer, and I have good quality microphones, but it still has a lot of noise coming from it. How do I reduce this?
What kind of noise?
If it is loud hum, then the power supply inside the mixer is shot (broken). Fix it. One spec sheet I found says it uses 10,000 uF capacitors for filters. Those are hard to come-by in the voltages necessary for a 1000W-class output. I suspect the caps. are shot.
If it is high frequency hissing noise or something similar, then try boosting the gain (Input Level Set knob) on the preamps for the microphones and use less volume from the Volume Channel knob.
I really like Mackie VLZ preamps. You shouldn't be having problems with noise from them.
