my sub says 1200 watts peak and 4 ohm, i purchased a 400 watt at 2 ohm alpine amp.?
the amp specs are
Alpine mrp-m450 amplifier
rms power output 220w x 1 channel
400w x 1 channel 2 ohms
frequency response 20-200 hz
thd at rms power 1%
signal to noise ratio 65dB
input voltage 14.4v
class d amp
lowpass crossover frequency 50-200hz
lowpass slope (dB/octave)
bass boost 0-12 dB
bass boost frequency 50 hz
fuse rating 20x2
the sub specs are
1 12'' xplore xr-3912 pentegon subwoofer
1200 watts max
250 watts RMS
Dual 4 Ohm Voice Coil
frequency response 28hZ-2KhZ
sensitivity 90 dB
the sub specs i got off an ebay page not positive how accurate they are so if you can give me the correct specs on my sub i have the right model number and size and peak watts it says that on the sub i am not posotive about the rms i found a page that said 600w rms and 250 watts rms. should i wire this in parallel or series i have the wires running through my car im all set just waiting for the amp in the mail. and the correct wiring info for best bass quality.
"dual 4 ohm voice coil". that means 2 voice coils and yes you would have to wire them both, therefor having to choose either series or parrellel. for you making a 8 ohm or a 2 ohm load. which means overpowering the sub at 2 ohms wired in parrellel. the 250 watt RMS rating on the sub is total or 125 watts for each coil. the amp puts out 400 Watts to a 2 ohm load. that is considerably to much. unfortunately added one more sub would not help you, becasue then the load would be 4 ohm lowering the amp to 220 and therefor underpowering the subs. unfortunately you really needed to do more research before purchacing to make sure of proper compatability. It sounds like the Subs are rockwood. i would reccomend getting a new sub that is a 2 ohm total load... that handles the 400 watts. or a pair of subs that are 4 ohms each and handle 200 watts Rms each. right now crutchfield has buy one get one free on mtx. you could pick up a pair of 10" that hold 250 each, ( a good match) for $90 bucks.
