I would like to know the pros and cons of stand alone room air conditioners which do not need to be vented?
I do not have many windows in the middle of the house where I would want the air conditioner (and I don't have much wall space to cut a hole into in order to fit an air conditioner). This type just stands in the room on rollers and has a hose to drain the water. It does not need to be vented and does not need to be placed in a window.
I am concerned whether this type would pollute the air indoors and be harmful to asthmatics.
I know they cost way more, like $400-$500.
I have not seen them in use, so would like information from those who have experienced the use of these air conditioners.
I'm not aware of a true "air conditioner" that isn't vented to the outside somehow. The ones I've seen vent the warm, humid air outside, thru a flexible drier vent type hose. Are you confusing the "hose to drain the water" with this 3 to 4 inch dia. vent hose? Air conditioners don't just make it cold in the room. They remove heat. Heat flows from warm places to cold places. Not the other way around. All the heat beating down on your house is relentlessly invading that little cold spot in your air conditioned room. An air conditioner just keeps pushing it back out thru your window/wall, or to the condenser/heat exchanger if you have central air, or out the vent hose of the free-standing unit. The humidity goes with it. I'm not aware of technology that can use a water hose to remove that much heat efficiently.
