Not a bad setup, agree with the first poster, I personally like the Soundblaster X-Fi series for sound cards rather than the onboard, it's up to you. Same deal on the form factor, verify that the case is compatible.
You probably don't need the floppy drive, I keep one around to load drivers during install of XP for the SATA, that's it. If you're planning on MS Vista, I don't think you need to install the SATA drivers that way. Although, like the first MB review I added here, backing up your bios. I only ever needed that if I was installing the bios using the utility and booting from the floppy. ASUS has new features, that allow you to update BIOS from within windows. works fine too.
On the video card, I have a 6800, it's a good card, but as stated by the first post here, Nvidia is up to 8800. The 7600 gs-gt's run between 89-149. And are you going to do SLI? Make sure you get two video cards that are exactly the same. Same firmware etc... You could also go with ATI, the 1950's are in the 249 range.
Here's a review of the MB from New Egg:
Pros: Outstanding motherboard, but initial set-up is not for the novice. Must be able to adjust memory timings accordingly to get past POST with certain types of RAM. This is something I've noticed on several of the new motherboards (both X2 and AM2 socket).
Cons: Price! Too much money to spend for only a very minor improvement in performance. Only serious gamers/geeks will utilize the overclocking capabilities of this product.
Other Thoughts: You can flash your BIOS via the ASUS Crashfree BIOS utility! ALWAYS make a back-up floppy of your current BIOS image before flashing it!! You learned the hard way...
I would have to agree on the price. I also have built 7 pc's using ASUS over the years, and only had to return 1 MB. Good stable product. BUT, and I'm sure you did your research, there are so many other good to great MB's out there for alot less.
My current build which is showing it's age a little, when it comes to playing the newest games, is built on an ECS MB. 2 years without so much as a hiccup. Just wanted to pass that along.
Good luck and have fun!
