Mason jar floating candle?
Please help! I tried to do a centerpiece with a mason (canning) jar filled part-way with water, with a floating tealight, but the heat from the candle cracked the jar! What is the optimum water level to prevent breakage?
A tea light has a metal bottom to it. The heat from it probably cracked the jar. There are special candles that are called floating candles. They look like they were made in a muffin tin. I use a bowl, put some real flowers in it and 3 floating candles. It does not break at all. And I use the nice patterned clear glass bowls. If you want to use mason jars for anything, put potpourri and a set of 35 clear Christmas lights. Leave the top open but I put a doily on top with a ribbon strung thru it in a circle and then tie it on the top of the jar. I have one I used for 4 years already. I did wash the doily though. Good luck.
