having trouble clipping my cat's fur with Oster clippers?
My cat has cancer and I have to put a fentanyl (sp?) pain patch on him, so I need to clip an area of his fur very short in order to do this. shaving is not an option, because that will irritate the skin and then I can't put the patch there (as per directions).
I tried last night, and the Oster clippers just don't cut his fur. I tried them out on my arm hair, and the clippers worked great. My cat was lying nicely for me, so I trimmed his hair shorter with scissors & tried again with the clippers - they won't move thru his fur somehow, just don't cut. I don't get what's wrong. He is a medium hair cat. I don't want to take him to the vet because the vet is a 35 min drive one way & I hate to terrorize him. The clippers are clean, not clogged up.

You may not have the correct atatchment or you may be holding the blade at the wrong angle. Without seeing what you'r working with or how you are holding the thing it's hard to tell. If you hold the blade to flat against the hair it will run across the top. You have to hangle the blade in and you will see it cut through all the way to the skin..at this point, with the clippers at about a 45 degree angle you can begin to move the blade..but until you get the initial cut you won't be able to move the blade across the fur because the fur is so thick. You will ge the same affect as if you were to use a razor in the shower on leghair grown out for months...you get some hair on the razor but no "mark" across the leg". Not that I'm big foot and would have hair that thick..I'm just thinking of an analogy. But when you clip you should at first hear the satisfying sound of the clippers going through all the layers of the hair before you try moving the blade. You will know right then if the "blade" isn't cutting the fur becuase you won't be able to make a "line" when you try to press it in...if that happens...you have the wrong attatchment for the cat and you need different blades.
