Looking for a good daily driver crusier style bike... something under $8000.. any suggestions?
I want to find a good reliable bike that will handle daily driving of 100mile or more. Something comfortable and easy to ride. It would be my daily driver per say. I currently ride a '80 Yamaha Maxim 650, but it just aint my style and not very comfortable if you ask me. Im 250 pounds, so I need something a little bigger as well. Im fond the HD Heritage and the Yamaha V-Star, but Im not too familiar with some of the less expensive alternitives... Just looking for suggestions
Thanks
Ive always liked the viragos as well... I should mention I want a bike with a V-Twin motor... Thanks for the responses so far
I'm not a heavy dude, but I'm tall. 36 inch inseam. I have a used '99 FXDWG that has given me no trouble at all in the last 10,000 miles. Up until recently I had an 80 mile commute back and forth to work. It cost me less than 9 grand and it handles just fine in parking lots. (My personal bike test. If I can slip the clutch, and use the rear brake a bit at low speed, to keep the puppy under control I consider the bike a keeper.)
The bike is very comfortable. I probably helps that I have an aftermarket seat. I have no idea how comfy a stock Dyna seat may be. I had no trouble making my 80 mile commute on this baby. She is sweet in the turns, and goes like heck when you twist the wick. The TC-88 is a great motor. I had an old 1200 Sporty that went OK, but the 88 feels like you have the hand of God on your butt and he is pushing you!
The Dyna is the next cheapest thing to the Sporty. It's the cheap "big" H-D. If you are are a heavyweight, the extra cubes are gonna help when you have to "move it or lose it". Getting a used Dyna (The FXDWG model) would be a good bet as long as you stay away from the ones that had the problems with bearing failure, and the ones that have not been converted to gear cam drive.
You can get the info you need at www.AIMag.com by looking at the past info they have available on line. (Engine info, that is.) As far as comfy goes, if you have a stock saddle, you need to ditch it as soon as possible if it starts to bother you. I got a bad case of "nut & butt" on my stock Sporty seat. When I got the new "Mustang" seat, I was fine.
Good luck in your search. Remember that the AMF days are long behind us. My scoot has almost 50,000 miles on it. It don't leak, it always starts, and as long as you go to an "indie" shop you don't pay as much "Harley" tax. Ride safe.
