i have a maths exam tomoro and theres stuff that i REALLY don't understand.. anyone able to help me it will be MUCH MUCH appreciated|

A ship leaves port and heads on a bearing of 145 degrees true travelling at 17 km/h. After 8 hours it alters course to a bearing of 253 degrees true and continues at the same speed for another 12 hours. It then receives a report of a cyclone developing in the area. The ship increases speed to 21 km/h and heads directly back to port.
On what bearing (to the nearest minute) should it head and how long will it take to get back to port?
the ships initial course is 145 deg.
i.e with respect to south 35 degrees.
choose any point on a paper. lay down south and then draw a line at angle of 35 degrees. This line now represents the course. distance is 17 x 8 = 136 kms.
this arrival point is B.
at B ship alters course to 253 degrees.
ie 73 degrees to west with ref to south.
at point B draw this angle w.r.t south. and draw a line of length 17 x 12 = 204 kms.
At the end of the line is point C.
From point C u have to proceed to starting point A.
So u get a triangle A,B,C.
where AB = 136 kms.
BC = 204 Kms
and Angle B = (35 + 17) = 52 degrees.
Now use cosine formula.
CA ^2 = AB^2 + BC^2 - 2(AB) (BC) ( cos 52).
CA= 161.09 kms.
the value of CA is the distance to the port. 161.09/21 will be the time = 7.7 hours.
Re apply cosine formula
AB^2 = CA^2 + BC^2 - 2(CA)(BC) cos (angle ACB).
get the angle ACB.
This angle is 41.5 degrees.
So angle A will be 86.5 degrees.
so the course will be
86.5 - 35 = 51.5.
Final course = N 51.5 East.
or 51.5 degrees true.
