Hosting An Apartment Beach Party
Ok, so you've seen Annette go ‘Back to the Beach' more times than you'd freely admit in public, but that shouldn't stop you from hiding your unabashed love for all things coastal from your friends and family. After all, it's summertime and you've got a new apartment to show off, mon! So bust out the blender, buy stock in coconut, and get ready to throw the mother of all apartment beach parties!
First things first – you'll want to determine your guest list and send out invitations well in advance. Make sure you skip the subtleties on the invites – this is a beach party, after all, so encourage your guests to get in the swing of things by offering a prize for most creative outfit (or tackiest Hawaiian shirt). The last thing you want are people showing up dressed like it's just another run-of-the-mill summer BBQ.
Setting is also key, but with a great apartment like yours and a little creativity that should literally be no sweat. Hit the local Dollar Store for some affordable and theme-enhancing ‘extras' like Tikki masks, inflatable flamingos, surf-inspired paper plates or even a pirate piñata. Stock up on plenty of crushed ice and fruit for those daiquiris (both the adult and kid-friendly varieties), and while you may want to stop short of dumping sand in your apartment living room, adding some surf-inspiring music will go a long way in building the sun-soaked environment you desire (try the Beach Boys or Dick Dale for starters).
Sure, the apartment beach ambiance you've crafted is sure to please many a bunny, but try adding a few games to liven things up even more. A full on limbo competition is only one broomstick away, and coconut bowling (using empty soda bottles as pins) is always a hit. Just be sure to leave plenty of room for dancing, as your guests will inevitably want to twist the night away like it's 1959 all over again. Hang ten, apartment dude!
