Pesto pasta with sausage? ?
Here are the ingridients:
1/2 cup basil leaves -- packed
1/4 cup pine nuts
PLUS
2 tablespoons pine nuts
2 cloves garlic -- peeled
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
5 tablespoons olive oil-- HAVE THIS!
1 package (12 oz. size) uncooked linguine
1 pound cooked Italian sausage links -- sliced
Here are the directions:
Combine basil, 1/4 cup pine nuts and garlic in food processor or blender; process until smooth. Add cheese. With machine running, pour oil through feed tube and process until ingredients are well blended; set aside.
Prepare pasta according to package directions. During last 2 minutes of cooking, add sausage to pasta; drain.
Combine pasta mixture with pesto and garnish with remaining 2 tablespoons walnuts. Serve immediately.
Where it says "last two minutes of cooking, add sausage to pasta; drain"
it just doesn't sound right to me! Should I cook the sausage seperately? If so, how?

Yes, that sounds right. The list of ingredients states "1 pound cooked Italian sausage", i.e. the sausage is already cooked.
I imagine the idea is to infuse the pasta with some of the taste of the Italian sausage, which usually has an aniseed flavour to it. It also allows the sausage to heat up. I've seen this technique before using asparagus.
